Vanessa and Rolf Schumacher are your hosts on Oude Wellington. "We wine and dine and love company" best describes our way of life. We enjoy having guests, discussing the world and have the world discuss us. We like to travel ourselves and have met some very interesting people along the way. Having a guesthouse became the natural extension. Vanessa's experience that she gathered working at 5-star Hotels has helped support our passion.

Enjoy your stay on our historical Cape Dutch estate with thatched roofs and a spectaculat view over our vineyards and mountains.

Oude Wellington Estate is a working farm with animals, vineyards and a winery using open fermentation and wooden basket-presses. A traditional Brandy distillery runs most of the year.

Several farm labourers' families live on the farm, the tractor goes to work in the morning and the ducks and geese want to be fed. Peacocks, ostriches, alpacas and other pets are on our farm for you to enjoy.

Enjoy your day at the swimming pool, watch the farm animals. During harvest you can actually see the grapes turn into wine before your eyes.

In winter, there is no better place than in front of our big Cape Dutch fireplace with a glass of red wine..

The famous Bainskloof pass rises behind this historic working estate. Authentic rustic charm with Victorian bathrooms enhanced by modern comforts, telephone, air-conditioning, DVD, TV, fridge, safe and WiFi. Walk to the popular estate restaurant and enjoy lunch under shady oak trees, a candlelit dinner or in winter

John Tecklenburg is the new owners/chef at Oude Wellington Estate Restaurant. He is well known and rooted in the Boland, but has spread his wings all across the country as well. With loads of experience and a local sense of price worthiness he has put together a remarkable new concept. John has a local fan club in Franschhoek, Stellenbosch and Wellington. He is fluent in Afrikaans, English and Dutch and can even crack a joke in German. Flexibility is his trademark: A living menu that is ever-changing and very adaptable to the seasons and fresh produce available. So don't be surprised if the menu changes between lunch and dinner - he might just have dug out some fresh veggies in the garden and changed the dishes accordingly. Be enchanted and culinarily delighted to meet his dynamic team.

Nearby are a variety of restaurants, ranging from family type to elegant and Mediterranean.

Rooms
All rooms have separate entrances, a Victorian-style bathroom, wall-safes, air-conditioning, under-floor heating, hand-formed clay tiles, satellite-TV, and a writing desk.

One of our rooms is wheelchair friendly. It has a spacious bath, extra-wide doors and everything else in the height to be conveniently reachable from wheelchair level.

Our scenic self-catering vineyard cottage is for the whole family (one bedroom with en-suite bathroom, lounge and kitchenette). At our discretion and other guests' courtesy we welcome children.
