Mtubatuba is idealy situated to visit St Lucia and Hluhluwe

Mtubatuba is surrounded by large forest plantations and is conveniently situated for access to both St Lucia and Hluhluwe/Umfolozi. Matubatuba is named after a Zulu chief in the area whose mother battled to give birth to him.

Mtubatuba, located approximately 46 km north of Empangeni, is the gateway of Zululand’s world famous, Mkuzi, False Bay. Hluhluwe and Umfolozi Game Reserves. The area is a naturalist’s dream, with the magnificent Dukuduku Forest situated between Mtubatuba and St Lucia. The forest is home to many rare tropical butterflies and the extremely rare and poisonous Gaboon viper. The beautiful forest walks are a delight, taking one to the edge of the Furululu Lake, the home of many hippos, with magnificent swamp forests festooned with ferns, orchids and other tropical splendours. Mtubatuba has all the facilities of a modern town, while retaining the original characteristics indicating the roots from which today’s Mtubatuba has grown.
